Notes from our Green Buyer

Makonga is a washing station with over 230 contributing members. It began in 2018 with the intent to gain these smallholder farmers access into the specialty coffee market. Each year, it’s grown considerably and has continued to support farmers from four surrounding villages. This coffee represents a unique part of the African coffees coming to our roastery  – one we rarely get to show you!

Notes from our Roaster

We’re excited to offer you Makonga, since it comes from such a unique origin! As you might expect from an African, you’ll recognize a bright, tropical fruit note. However, unlike the quintessential Ethiopians or Kenyans, Makonga has a unique sweetness to it – it will remind you of pistachio, pecan, or honey. Its sweetness helps round out the acidity, giving you a more balanced cup!
