Notes from our Green Buyer

Marysabel (Moises’s wife) can’t tell this story without tearing up. When Moises pushed her to take on her own farm again, she was beyond reticent—practically opposed. After weeks of sorrow and anxiety, she awoke one day and made a decision: she would choose to do the work, and she would choose to enjoy it. But she was unprepared for what awaited. When she finally set foot into La Tina, the farm where she spent her youth, what followed was an unexpected reunion—of places, but most importantly to Marysabel, of people. When she speaks of the old familiar faces, hers lights up with joy—and the work changed in that moment. While challenging, as she works to replace every tree on the farm, the product is unmistakable. We invite you to be a part of Marysabel’s first harvest at La Tina.

Notes from our Roaster

Some of our favorite coffees are “experiments” of Moises Herrera, at Finca El Puente. For Moises, this can be risky, yielding flavors you don’t want in your coffee; yet, his long history of experience and practice have provided him with a good foundation for this kind of work. With this extended fermentation, he developed the classic stone-fruit sweetness of a washed-processed coffee into something much more akin to a clean, honey-processed coffee.
