Notes from our Green Buyer

This is an exciting coffee for us.  For the past 5-6 years, Luis Pedro and his team have been working to increase their farming practices through soil regeneration.  They have always been mindful, but saw opportunity to increase planting diversity, composting/nutrient inputs, and production of more local foods for their own community, rather than simply export.  This lot of coffee is the product those dreams, ideas, and work.  The coffee rows are spaced a little further, vegetables are grown in between to increase diversity, and these vegetables are sold locally.  They’ve also started making biochar and anaerobic compost fertilizers to supplement their coffee pulp composting. The most exciting part is their trajectory, and their dreams to increase their knowledge and the depth of their regeneration project. Luis Pedro and Melanie will only continue improving their work.

Notes from our Roaster

There are two things you’ll notice about this coffee: its depth and complexity. Usually, you’ll see notes like “apple” or “orange” on the front of your bag. Here, however, you find “plum.” Why is that? While Carmona Regenerative is fruity, it’s also juicy. Its heaviness, or body, doesn’t detract from its sweetness but contributes to it, which is why “plum” is paired with “caramel.” And yet, there’s an accompanying floral note in the finish. This “orange blossom” note adds dimension to your cup profile, which is what we call complexity. There’s a lot going on in Carmona Regenerative, which is why it’s one of the more memorable Guatemalans we’ll offer.
